Situation
The fishing village of Mevagissey occupies one of the most spectacular coastal locations in The West Country and is in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The village is famous for its labyrinth of tiny streets, quaint cob and slate cottages and its twin harbours, where visitors still watch fishermen land their catch and mend their nets as they have done since the 17th century.

Nearby, there are many attractions for the visitor, including Charlestown, an attractive Georgian harbour with lock gates, which is the home to several square rigged sailing ships and is often used as a film location; The Lost Gardens of Heligan, which were lost for 75 years under brambles and ivy, are now Europe's largest garden restoration; The National Maritime Museum at Falmouth; the Tate Gallery at St Ives and The Eden Project: two gigantic biomes housed in a 50 metre deep former china clay pit. With its stunning architecture and breathtaking plant collection, The Eden Project has been billed as the eighth wonder of the world.

This part of Cornwall boasts an excellent range of sporting facilities, there is yachting and sea fishing from Fowey, local golf courses, swimming, tennis, horse riding, spectacular walks and much more. Locally there are many lovely beaches from which to swim, including Gorran beach, Colona Beach and nearby Caerhayes, to name but a few.
